about

This is, to my recollection, the very first The Pineapple Army song ever recorded. Technically it wasn't even a The Pineapple Army song when it was originally written and recorded. I was still using the moniker KcL at the time. I don't remember if I made the change in the middle of this album or after July when Alex and I began sort of making music together.

I did know, however, that this was something new for me. This was going to be a brand new approach to songwriting for me. Up to this point, I had primarily made songs up as I went when recording. Generally I would come up with a guitar riff and then pull out some lyrics I had already written and just forced them together. I wasn't going to do that anymore. I was going to sit down and take the time to craft songs to the best of my ability... while also trying to record one song a day for a project I thought was feasible.

My girlfriend at the time had recently introduced me to Radiohead. I mean, I knew who Radiohead was but I never bothered to listen to them. I wanted her to like me so I got into Radiohead. It wasn't that hard to do. I made the beat for Vampire Watermelon specifically trying to conjure the feeling of 15 Step from the album In Rainbows. This is the end result. I thought THIS sounded like Radiohead. A memory that will haunt me until I die is my friend Justin Roman telling me this sounded like The Postal Service, which is a huge compliment, and me telling him it's supposed to sound like Radiohead. I'm an asshole.

lyrics

Don't even think for a second I'll forget this
I can hold a grudge like nobody's business
I'll alienate God just because he was a witness
But I'm not about to trade love for forgiveness

My head is tipping over so make yourself at home
Horizons smother sunlight to make their presence known
But my body isn't keeping up with the sound of chimes
Intelligence will show you aren't even inside your mind

I feel automatic
My media static is overwhelming
Appreciate standards to the media's telling to oversell you

My vampiric watermelon stomach is expanding
I ate too much too fast
Now I feel like my life is flashing right in front of my hands

All the knowledge I used to adore has taken it's vacation evermore
I ruined everything that I ignored
I know not what i do this for

about

The Pineapple Army Michigan

I've always been terrible at writing biographies so why stop now. We're probably a band from Michigan. We don't adhere to a specific genre which causes mild schizophrenia in certain individuals. We will write commercial jingles for the right price and we do NOT play at weddings, only funerals. ... more
